The Messenger

Script développé:
Une personne (l’interprète) mémorise un message dans une langue qu’elle ne peut ni comprendre ni identifier. L’interprète sait seulement que cette langue est parlée par une certaine communauté là où la performance va se dérouler. La performance consistera à identifier la langue et à trouver quelqu’un qui puisse dire au messager ce que signifie le message; alors seulement la performance est terminée.
Ce qui compte, ce n’est pas la signification du message (il n’est donc pas permis de le chercher sur internet, mais seulement « sur le terrain ») mais la recherche de la personne qui peut dire au messager le sens de ce qu’il dit .
La principale qualité que nous recherchons chez un interprète est donc la capacité à raconter correctement et de manière intéressante cette recherche de sens. Cette narration nous apprendra avant tout les caractéristiques (sociales, humaines, historiques) du lieu où se déroule la performance, les personnes qui y habitent et les relations qu’elles établissent entre elles.
Cette narration est mise en ligne sur Internet sur le site «The Messenger», avec des images prises par l’interprète lors de la recherche – une sorte de journal.

Script developed :
A person (performer) memorises a message in a language he/she cannot understand nor identify. The performer only knows that this language is spoken by a certain community in the area where the performance is going to happen. The performance will consists in identifying the language and finding someone who can tell the messenger what the message means; only then the performance is finished.
What matters is not the meaning of the message (therefore it is not allowed to search for it in internet, but only « in the field ») but the search for the person who can tell the messenger the meaning of what he/she is saying.
The main quality we are looking for in a performer is therefore the capacity to narrate properly and in an interesting manner this search for meaning. This narration will tell us above all about the (social, human, historical) characteristics of the area where the performance takes place, the people they inhabit it, and the relations they establish among themselves.
This narration is uploaded to internet in the site « The Messenger », together with images taken by the performer during the search- a sort of diary.
